I have had the pleasure of seeing the fruits of Marcel Cohen’s work with challenged children during my time in Toronto. He is able to take children whom the system would let slide and teach them, each "al pi darko" -- according to his skill level. Children who could barely recognize a letter have read directly from the Torah after Marcel’s time with them. He teaches them with a most gentle manner, and sings at their Bnai Mitzvah. I regularly refer my challenged students to him, and he always manages to adjust his schedule for one more. My son, Robbie, is shy and soft-spoken. We were concerned that he would not want to have a Bar Mitzvah. Marcel was able to bring him to the point where Robbie mastered his Torah portion and even worked on vocal training to improve the way Robbie sounds. Marcel is a master teacher and any child is fortunate who has him as their teacher.
Last year when our son was in grade two, his teachers expressed real concern that he was not yet reading. They suggested we get a private tutor and a friend recommended Marcel Cohen. They told us he was a master teacher and the top private tutor around. When we consulted with Mr. Cohen he suggested that given the fact that our son has ADHD and has such a long day in his Jewish School, that we should consider doing the tutoring during school. He explained that this would allow him to be in close contact with his teachers as well. Mr. Cohen tutored Yoni three times a week and in less than two months, our son was reading and his self esteem was so much higher. No one was more amazed than his teacher!
When I asked Yoni what Mr. Cohen was teaching him, he mumbled something about being taught how to figure it out with special secret codes. He just had the magical combination of master teacher, extreme patience and the ability to make it fun and boost our son's self confidence.
We don't know how to express our appreciation for the work that Marcel Cohen did with our son!

I would like to have strong faith, like Abraham; to be able to trust God, without question. I hope that I will grow to become the kind of man that can help people, be patient and kind like my teacher, Marcel Cohen. He believed in me and taught me to have faith in people and the Torah, and that we should never stop learning and growing in Judaism.
